Nitrifying Archaea and Bacteria
Ammonia and nitrite oxidizing prokaryotes conduct nitrification in a variety of environmental and engineered systems. We are studying the genomes and ecophysiology of these organisms in a variety of marine and freshwater ecosystems. One of the major focuses of this project is to establish a fundamental understanding of the relationship between gene, transcript, protein, and function through purely informatics studies, well controlled culture experiments, and field sampling.
