Proteomic analysis of cell envelope-associated proteins in a vancomcyin intermediate resistant Staphylococcus aureus (VISA) strain

Comparative proteomic analysis of Staphylococcus aureus strains of the VISA phenotype with differing resistance to vancomycin

June 6, 2006

The NIAID sponsored Pathogen Functional Genomics Resource Center (PFGRC) (NIAID contract N01-AI-15447) has funded two studies investigating the proteome of vancomycin intermediate resistant Staphylococcus aureus (VISA). Emerging clinical VISA isolates are also methicillin-resistant and cause increasing public health concerns, because few antibiotics remain to treat life-threatening infections with these bacterial pathogens. Data, including interactive 2DE gel images and mass spectrometry protein identifications from the first study, profiling cell envelope-associated proteins. Similar data from the second study, comparing protein abundance among isogenic strains that differ in resistance to vancomycin.
