CommentFocA (formate channel A) forms a pentameric formate-selective channel through the plasma membrane. The focA gene is largely restricted to Proteobacteria and occurs adjacent to genes for pyruvate formate lyase (PFL) and the PFL activase, a radical SAM protein. FocA is homologous to a nitrite transport protein, NirC.
