CommentThis family of ABC substrate-binding proteins is observed primarily in close proximity with proteins localized to the cell wall and bearing the NEAT (NEAr Transporter, PF05031) heme-binding domain [1,2]. IsdE has been shown to bind heme and is involved in the process of scavenging heme for the purpose of obtaining iron [3,4].
