CommentMembers of this family are found encoded in CRISPR-associated (cas) gene clusters, near CRISPR repeats, in the genomes of several different thermophiles: Archaeoglobus fulgidus (archaeal), Aquifex aeolicus (Aquificae), Dictyoglomus thermophilum (Dictyoglomi), and a thermophilic Synechococcus (Cyanobacteria). It is not yet assigned to a specific CRISPR/cas subtype (hence the x designation csx3).
