Name | O111(Ec) antigen biosynthesis |
Type | METAPATH |
Description | The O111 O-antigen is observed in E. coli strain 11128. The structure of the O111 antigen is a branched pentasaccharide containing two colitose sugars [1]. The O111 biosynthetic cluster encodes three sugar transferases WbdHLM, the wzx and wzy components as well as the enzymes for the biosynthesis of GDP-L-colitose from D-fructose-6P via GDP-mannose. One of the transferases, WbdM, is responsible for attaching both colitose residues at both the 3 and 6 positions of alpha-D-glucose as the last steps of the monomer synthesis. |
